News – 17 September 2026

For many people across Cornwall, getting to a healthcare appointment isn’t always straightforward. At Healthwatch Cornwall, we hear from people about the challenges that can make it harder to access the care they need, and transport is one of the issues raised most often. Limited public transport, long travel distances, mobility needs and the cost of travel can all make attending appointments more difficult.

This guide brings together information about services and support that may help you get to health and care appointments. We also want to hear from you if transport has made it difficult to attend, delayed your care or meant you missed an appointment, so we can share people’s experiences with those who plan and provide services.

NHS Patient Transport Service

The NHS Patient Transport Service (PTS) is available for people whose medical condition means they need support to travel to and from healthcare appointments, and where it would not be appropriate for them to travel by other means. Eligibility criteria apply, so it’s worth checking whether you qualify.
